Revealing the Faces of Incarceration: #SeeAngela

Imagine being judged for the rest of your life by the worst mistake you made on the worst day of your life.

This is the reality for 2.3M people currently incarcerated in U.S. prisons across the country. But it doesn’t have to be. We’re working to change that narrative by sharing the stories of incarcerated women who work each day to rebuild their lives. Our #SeeMe campaign takes you behind prison walls to our Televerde call centers at the Department of Corrections in Arizona and Indiana where we hire and train incarcerated women in business acumen, sales and marketing, and the most in-demand hard and soft skills. Our ladies have a confidence and dedication to their work that is unmatched, and we love when people visit our prison-run call centers and see them where they shine.

Meet Angela.

What is one accomplishment you’re most proud of?

My greatest accomplishments are my two children. It’s important to me to be a mom my children can be proud of. Televerde has given me a platform to show my children that they can once again take pride in their mother.

It’s said that the most successful women build a female tribe to help them learn & grow. Tell us about the culture on the inside and how you’re supported by the women around you.

I firmly believe in surrounding myself with those who are on the same mission as myself. My closest friends and mentors are driven and goal oriented, always striving to make a better future.

How will you set an example to the young women of tomorrow?

By leading by example, having great work ethics and displaying a strong character.

If you could give one piece of advice to your younger self, what would it be?

I would tell my younger self to take advantage of all opportunities and when you’re uncomfortable you are growing, so embrace it and never give up because you are worth it.

What has inspired you most in your professional journey? (A book, a person, a training, etc.)

I work in Televerde’s call center inside Rockville Correctional facility. Lori Furniss, our call center supervisor and Ronald Henton, our call center manager are two people who have inspired me the most. They have given me the tools and the coaching to be the business woman that I am today. They have inspired my professional journey by their faith, knowledge, wisdom, and trust in my abilities. I can’t thank them enough.
